You might be wondering what the queen of farm-to-table cuisine and an Oscar-nominated actor have in common. Well, on October 24, you can join both Alice Waters and Jake Gyllenhaal for an intimate reception benefiting the Edible Schoolyard Project and Edible Schoolyard NYC, organizations that bring to life Waters’s vision of an edible education in schools nationwide and in NYC public schools.

Join them at NYC’s Neue Galerie, along with other movers and shakers of New York’s food scene, such as famed restaurateur Ken Friedman. Not only will you get to preview Neue’s fall exhibition, but you’ll also be supporting a long-standing program that teaches students about making healthy food choices and that advocates for free, nutritious school lunches for all students.

Gyllenhaal, an avid gardener himself, has been involved in helping to spread awareness of Edible Schoolyard’s mission, citing it as “one of the best investments in the future of the country we can make.”

You can also attend a cozy pre-reception, where you’ll have a chance to chat with the Chez Panisse chef herself and help plant the seeds for the next generation of America’s eaters.
