It’s been more than a year since the first Edible Schoolyard meal at the fashion designer Lela Rose’s TriBeCa apartment. And, since we weren’t able to make that one, it’s been more than a year that we’ve been looking forward to seeing Ms. Rose’s dining-room table. This isn’t some ordinary dinner table. It rather famously, at least in Edible Schoolyard circles, comes up from the floor in parts and drops from the ceiling.
In homage, John Lyons, the former president of Focus Features who serves on the board of Alice Waters’s Chez Panisse Foundation (which oversees Edible Schoolyard) said he was toying with the idea of hiring a set designer to redo his apartment. That way, he joked, “all of the furniture can fly in from the ceiling.”
