‘Burn This’ Postponed Until 2017-2018 Season

Producers Stacey Mindich and Jessica R. Jenen announced today the postponement of the Broadway revival of Burn This, due to scheduling conflicts with the show’s star. The show is now aiming for its Broadway bow during the 2017-2018 season.

Ambassador Theatre Group has commented that although disappointed to hear that Burn This will not be proceeding, they will soon announce a new production to launch the beautiful Hudson Theatre in 2017.

BURN THIS premiered Off-Broadway in 1987, at Theatre 890. Directed by Marshall W. Mason, the cast featured Jonathan Hogan, Joan Allen, John Malkovich, and Lou Liberatore. The play transferred to Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre later that same year. The cast reprised their roles for the Broadway production.

Jake Gyllenhaal Set To Return To Broadway In ‘Burn This’

Jake Gyllenhaal is ready for his next stage role, just as Broadway is ready for a brand new theater. The actor will star in the first-ever Broadway revival of Lanford Wilson’s acclaimed play, Burn This, producers Stacey Mindich and Jessica R. Jenen have announced.

Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, American Idiot) will direct the revival, thirty years after the play first premiered.

Performances are set to begin in February, ahead of its opening night on March 6. Set in downtown New York in the gritty 1980s, the complex, humorous play explores the spiritual and emotional isolation of Pale and Anna, two iconoclasts who are brought together in the wake of a life-changing event.

Jake Gyllenhaal May Headline ‘Burn This’ on Broadway

After shining brightly in Constellations on Broadway last season, Jake Gyllenhaal is aiming to return to the Main Stem in Lanford Wilson’s Burn This. According to the New York Post, the production will be helmed by Tony winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening). No word yet on dates or theater.

Burn This centers on four New Yorkers whose lives are uprooted by a young dancer’s accidental death. The play premiered off-Broadway in 1987, later transferring to the Great White Way. The Signature Theatre Company revived the show off-Broadway 2002.

Gyllenhaal made his New York stage debut in If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet and starred in the revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s This is Our Youth in London’s West End in 2002; he recently appreared in Little Shop of Horrors for Encores!. The actor earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in Brokeback Mountain and his additional film credits include Prisoners, Enemy, Source Code, Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler and Everest.
