Anne Hathaway described how emotionally terrified she was acting out raunchy sex scenes with actor Jake Gyllenhaal in their upcoming movie “Love & Other Drugs” in an interview with Vogue magazine released Monday.
“This movie certainly has a lot of nerve,” Hathaway, 27, told the fashion magazine about the love story between a free-spirited but gravely ill woman named Maggie — played by Hathaway — who becomes involved with a Viagra salesman named Jamie (Gyllenhaal).
Hathaway and Gyllenhaal, 29, have acted together before when they played a married couple in the 2005 romantic drama “Brokeback Mountain.”
“These are people who have no trouble taking their clothes off — in a way, their bodies are their currency,” said the actress, most famous for her role in “The Devil Wears Prada.”
“I was a wreck from start to finish. I think I cried every single day,” she continued. “I had to lean so much more heavily on everyone around me than I’m used to. I’m used to pulling my own weight. But I totally fell apart.”
Hathaway also described how the emotional pain of her character mirrored the drama of her own personal life after her split from ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri — who is currently in prison for swindling investors out of millions of dollars.
When asked about relationship deal breakers for her in future, she joked, “Uh . . . fraud?”
“Love and Other Drugs” will be released in theaters on November 24.
