Trivia

  • Ryan Reynolds was considered for the role of Howard Birdwell.
  • Lindsay Lohan audition for the role of Alice Eckle.
  • (May 2008) Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel walked off the set due to SAG rules, after producers failed to show they had enough money to pay its cast. The SAG announced it would keep all cast members from the movie until the production company shows there is enough money set aside in a union-mandated account. Furthermore, union leaders at the International Alliance of Theatrical + Stage Employees (Iatse) called for staff-members to boycott the movie’s production and not show up to work when they learned below-the-line crew members were not being paid.
  • (June 2008) Production of the movie was shut down again when several crew members did not show up for work because they weren’t paid.
  • Since original director David O. Russell exited the project in 2010, his name is no longer associated with the film. Therefore, he receives directing credit as “Stephen Greene” (similar to the old “Alan Smithee” pseudonym used by directors who disown the final product of a film they may have directed at one point but eventually were not able to exercise creative control over (due to producers’ or financiers’ interference, for example)).
  • The movie was shelved ever since ending principal photography in November 2008. It was never fully finished and it is rumored that crucial parts of the plot were never shot. It was eventually released in 2015.
  • James Caan was cast in the movie for the role of a US politician, but left the project in April 2008 after an argument with director David O. Russell.
  • (July 2010) Director David O. Russell exited the project after negotiations with financier Ron Tutor broke down.
  • First (and, as of July 2014, the only) film directed by David O. Russell to be rated PG-13.
  • Originally a Capitol Films production. When cast and crew could not be paid due to Capitol’s financial woes, chief backers David Bergstein and Ron Tutor shelved the film. This is not the first time Bergstein has been involved in a production that was forced to shut down due to financial woes.
  • The second time James Marsden plays a character by the name of Scott, after playing Scott Summers in the X-Men movies.
  • Scott ( James Marsden) mentions the company Oakley on several occasions in the film. James Marden has worn Oakleys during the X-man films.

Goofs

  • When Scott is talking to Alice (when the squaw girls are camping out in front of The United States Capital building) the calamine lotion on her face changes in shape and density repeatedly.
