Gemma Arterton: Qualities that attracts her to Jake Gyllenhaal
10 September, 2010 Author: Catagories: News & Headlines, Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia actress Gemma Arterton recently starred in the movie with dashing actor Jake Gyllenhaal; something that made her friends extremely envious of her. However, Jake isn’t the only good looking actor she has worked with.

She has starred alongside a slew of hunky actors including James Bond Daniel Craig, Sam Worthington and Dominic Cooper. However, it was her camaraderie with Jake Gyllenhaal that had all her friends’ tongues wagging hard. They often bombard her with a string of girlie questions. Gemma confesses, “They’re always asking if I kiss him. And I say, ‘Yes, I do, so there!’ They’re all wildly jealous!”

And Jake’s qualities:

1. He is devastatingly handsome.
2. He is lovely, amiable and friendly.
3. He has a sense of wit.
4. And despite mega fame, he is extremely grounded and humble.

Gemma gushes, “The nicest thing about Jake is that he’s such a lovely, funny, kind and down-to-earth guy.” Ahem….ahem….

By the way, Prince of Persia DVD and Blu-ray shall be available from 13th September

Q & A with Jake Gyllenhaal from ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’
10 September, 2010 Author: Catagories: Interviews, Prince of Persia

On September 14th, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. In anticipation of the release,we have a fabulous Q & A with the super hot Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Prince Dastan in the film. He answers questions like – What was your inspiration for the movie? What sort of injuries did you get?. Find out the answers!

QUESTION: You and Gemma Arterton have great chemistry on screen in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. That must have helped in the scenes where your characters banter together?
JAKE GYLLENHAAL: Oh definitely! Those scenes I think were the best written and the most fun to play. They came so naturally and we shot them so fast. It was unfortunate that the ended so quickly. We might spend a month on an action scene and half a day on that scene (with Gemma). We would nail it and move on. She and I had a sort of tit for that thing. The first time we met she looked at me as though she was unimpressed and I looked at her like…’You should be! Why aren’t you?’…(joked). So that was it from the beginning, there was no acting required.

QUESTION: The weather in Morocco during filming was supposed to be so hot and sandy that it was almost like having sand in your mouth all the time?
JAKE GYLLENHAAL: It was not that bad. It was ok. It was hot but it was fun. The desert is really cleansing…the sand exfoliates your skin….and there is a nice warm dry sun and you are sweating.

QUESTION: You must have been conditioned by Jarhead?
JAKE GYLLENHAAL: I was. I make a lot of movies about turning back time and a lot of movies in the desert. It’s a very strange thing.

QUESTION: You have been Spider Man and Batman. Now in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time you have become a sort of super hero?
JAKE GYLLENHAAL: No! I am a video game adaptation. (jokes)

Brokeback Mountain’s Mr Soulful Jake Gyllenhaal turns into macho man
10 September, 2010 Author: Catagories: News & Headlines, Prince of Persia

He caused hearts of both sexes to flutter as the lovelorn gay cowboy of Brokeback Mountain, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest role sees him wrestling one or two hunky guys to the ground . . . but this time it’s out of duty rather than pleasure.

In Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, Gyllenhaal plays Prince Dastan, the action film’s muscular hero who fights hordes of marauding enemies in order to save the world.

Based loosely on the video game of the same name, it’s a noisy affair and a far cry from the quietly beautiful Brokeback, which saw Gyllenhaal garner an Oscar nomination

‘But,’ he says, ‘it’s good to play different roles, and I probably wasn’t the obvious choice for Prince Of Persia — which is why I wanted to do it. It’s a very physically
demanding role.’
We’re used to seeing Gyllenhaal project a certain soulfulness on screen (think Brokeback or Brothers), but in Prince Of Persia he is tough and firm-jawed, and frequently shirtless.

The action sequences teem with balletic sword fights and visually stunning uses of parkour — the practice of running and vaulting fluidly over walls and other obstacles.

‘The experts would teach us every day,’ says Gyllenhaal. ‘We worked very closely with David Belle, who invented parkour, but I wanted to do the functional action myself. If I was going to run on walls, I really wanted to do it. I just tried to figure out how to do that and not get hurt.’

Gyllenhaal also worked hard on his English accent, which for some reason the film-makers believed would have been deployed by a prince in 6th-Century Persia.

In fact, the British influence is felt keenly throughout the movie. Ben Kingsley plays the evil nobleman Nizam, Alfred Molina plays Dastan’s mentor Sheik Amar, and Bond girl Gemma Arterton plays Dastan’s voluptuous love interest, the high priestess
Tamina.

The director is Mike Newell, best known for Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire and Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Prince of Persia has already taken £250 m worldwide, making it the highest grossing video-game-turned-movie ever released.

‘I played really intensely when I was doing research for the film,’ says Gyllenhaal. ‘I’d see a move and then ask if we could copy it.’

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time is on Disney Blu-ray, DVD and Download from September 13.
