Jake To Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony For New Broadway Theatre

Broadway’s refurbished Hudson Theatre will relight February 8 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will include Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford, stars of the Sunday in the Park With George revival. The ceremony will take place at 11 AM at the theatre, located at 139-141 West 44th Street.

The Hudson, which originally opened in 1903, became one of Broadway’s most sought-after smaller theatres, ideal for plays. The Hudson’s bookings declined in the late 1940s, and it was used off and on as a television studio until it played its final Broadway performance on April 20, 1968. Thereafter it was used as a cinema and a disco until, faced with possible demolition, it was landmarked by the City of New York in 1987. The playhouse was purchased by a hotel developer who incorporated it into a hotel, now known as the Millennium Broadway, and used as a conference center and occasional comedy club.

Ambassador Theatre Group has announced that a revival of Sunday in the Park With George, starring Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Constellations) and Tony Award winner Annaleigh Ashford (You Can’t Take It With You), will reopen the historic Hudson Theatre on Broadway this winter for a strictly limited 10-week engagement.

Producers Stacey Mindich and Jessica R. Jenen announced today the postponement of the Broadway revival of Burn This, due to scheduling conflicts with the show’s star. The show is now aiming for its Broadway bow during the 2017-2018 season.

Ambassador Theatre Group has commented that although disappointed to hear that Burn This will not be proceeding, they will soon announce a new production to launch the beautiful Hudson Theatre in 2017.

BURN THIS premiered Off-Broadway in 1987, at Theatre 890. Directed by Marshall W. Mason, the cast featured Jonathan Hogan, Joan Allen, John Malkovich, and Lou Liberatore.
