Open Road Films has moved the Jake Gyllenhaal movie “Nightcrawler” from Oct. 17 to Oct. 31, meaning the film will be released nationwide on Halloween.
The Oct. 17 date became especially crowded when Sony moved Brad Pitt‘s “Fury” up several weeks. “Nightcrawler” would’ve also opened against Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Birdman,” Universal’s “Dracula Untold,” Fox’s animated movie “Book of Life,” Relativity’s romantic drama “The Best of Me,” the Kristen Stewart drama “Camp X-Ray” and the indie comedy “Listen Up Philip.”
With Open Road’s smart decision to delay the movie two weeks, “Nightcrawler” is now the highest-profile release on Halloween, when it will go head-to-head with the Daniel Radcliffe thriller “Horns,” the Nicole Kidman thriller “Before I Go to Sleep” and the horror movies “ABCs of Death 2” and “Why Don’t You Play in Hell.”
The 2014 Toronto Film Festival screening schedule is now online. Jake’s film, ‘Nightcrawler’, will have its world premiere on September 5th at 9:00 PM. Jake is expected to attend, according to the official press release.
Screening Schedule
– Friday, September 5 – Elgin / Winter Garden Theatre Visa Screening Room – 9:00 PM
– Saturday, September 6 – Ryerson Theatre – 12:00 PM
– Friday, September 12 – Ryerson Theatre – 9:00 PM
Canadian distributor Elevation Pictures is pleased to be a part of the premiere lineup, announced today at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) press conference. Elevation Pictures’ films include the Canadian premiere of The Imitation Game and the world premiere of Nightcrawler.
Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom, a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. crime journalism. Joining a group of freelance camera crews who film marketable mayhem, Lou makes his own place at the table, aided by Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news. Blurring the line between observer and perpetrator, Lou finds his calling in a murderous world reduced to transactions. The film also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton and will be distributed by Open Road in the U.S.
The film will make its world premiere as a Special Presentation at the Elgin Theatre on September 5 at 9:30 P.M.
