Love and Other Drugs, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, will premiere November 4 as the opening night gala film for the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest 2010, which will run through November 11. The festival will screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Adapted by Charles Randolph from Jamie Reidy’s nonfiction book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, the film involves a pharmaceutical salesman specializing in male performance enhancement drugs (Gyllenhaal), who becomes involved with a woman with Parkinson’s disease (Hathaway). The film also features Judy Greer and Josh Gad.

Hathaway starred in the Public Theater’s production of Twelfth Night in Central Park in 2009 and the City Center Encores! production of Carnival. She received an Oscar nomination for Rachel Getting Married, with other films including The Princess Diaries and Brokeback Mountain.

Black Swan, which stars stage vet Natalie Portman, will be the movie that closes the Festival. Additional selections for the event will be announced shortly.
