Why Jake Gyllenhaal can't fake it any longer

Coming from a family steeped in the business, Jake Gyllenhaal knows the routine. When it comes to promoting a film, you can never say enough good things about your co-stars.

“It’s true, actors do this stuff: ‘Oh, he’s great — he pisses lemonade and he shits rainbows,”‘ he says.

But no more. Such was the positive experience Gyllenhaal enjoyed with his new best buddy Tobey Maguire in Brothers, he’s committed to working on projects where the camaraderie is real.

“I don’t believe any more I can make a movie when I don’t care … about the other people in the process,” says the actor, whose father is a director, his mother a writer and sister is the Oscar-nominated Maggie Gyllenhaal. “I don’t think I’m any good when I don’t interact.”

Once poised to take over from Maguire in the Spider-Man franchise, 29-year-old Gyllenhaal credits his on-screen brother for initiating a meaningful and professionally rich relationship when the pair decided to do the film.

“We’d work out together, we’d play basketball together,” Gyllenhaal says. “Not only is he a great actor, he’s also a great producer in some ways.

“He’s 100 per cent always involved.”

Gyllenhaal’s career has remained buoyant since he was nominated for an Oscar alongside Heath Ledger for Brokeback Mountain in 2005, although he’s yet to become the next ubiquitous Hollywood star as many had expected. Ironically, Gyllenhaal turned down the lead role in the blockbuster Avatar but with a raft of diverse roles, including the big-budget Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, coming to screens this year, he is destined to reinforce his reputation as a marquee name.

“Working on a movie like Prince of Persia was awesome,” he says. “It was really great fun to be like an action hero, jump around and run off walls and fight bad guys, have great quippy lines. Wearing half your clothes is always really fun.”

Gyllenhaal worked furiously for seven months to hone his physique for the fantasy adventure movie, based on the video game series of the same name. The $US150 million ($164 million) film is scheduled for a May release.

He has other significant films in the can, among them Love and Other Drugs with Anne Hathaway and the comedy Nailed alongside Jessica Biel.

Gyllenhaal is now shooting sci-fi thriller Source Code, capping a hectic 12 months during which time he also split from his partner, Reese Witherspoon.

“Whatever I dreamed and hoped for in my career and life is not how it’s gone in a lot of ways and I love that.”

Is Jake Gyllenhaal Moving On With A New Woman?
9 March, 2010 Author: Catagories: Rumours

Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be taking his time getting over Reese Witherspoon, but who could blame him? The two were dating for two years, after all. But now it seems Jake may finally be back in the dating pool: eyewitnesses spotted the 29-year-old actor out with a new girl on March 6.

“Jake was hanging out with this mystery girl all night,” one partygoer at the UNICEF/Weinstein pre-Oscar bash at Soho House in Beverly Hills tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “She was sort of a Plain Jane, didn’t look like Reese at all. The only similarity is that they were both blond and short!”

Adds the insider, “They were together all night, but they weren’t holding hands or kissing or anything like that. There were no romantic overtones, but they did seem to be very close, sitting close and chatting intimately.”

Well, we say it’s about time! After splitting in November of 2009 after nearly two years together, Reese has already been stepping out on the town with Hollywood agent Jim Toth, while Jake seems to be moving on at a slower pace.

Jake Gyllenhaal – Hungry and Ready to Mingle
7 March, 2010 Author: Catagories: News & Headlines

The Oscar festivities may come to a close tonight, but LA certainly has been partying like crazy this week.

Aside from a few celeb pit stops at The Night Before Party at The Beverly Hills Hotel, the Weinstein Pre-Oscar party was the place to be last night celebrating their nominated films like Inglourious Basterds, Nine, and A Single Man.

Quentin Tarantino seemed to be honoree of the night as everyone wanted a piece of the director, but the partier who most caught our eye was Awful Truth fave Jake Gyllenhaal…who was seen chatting up another quasi-famous face for part of the night…

Jake and Olivia Munn (Chris Pine‘s ex gf) were speaking closely inside Soho House for part of the night, but we don’t see a romance brewing quite yet for these two.

“It looked totally innocent,” says an eyewitness at the shindig. “They hung for a while but Jake was overheard telling people he was just at the party to have a good time with his friends.”

We’re told the once Oscar golden boy was “smiling all night” as he perused the Hollywood crowd. We just love single (and happy) Jakey, don’t you?!

Still, don’t count the tabloids out for prematurely naming Gyllenhaal and Munn Hollywood’s new couple!

Another stud on the prowl—we told you he so wasn’t dating Jen Aniston—was Gerard Butler who was putting his best game forward chatting up a pretty young thang.

“Gerard was talking with a young blonde who later revealed she had a boyfriend,” an eyewitness tells E!, stressing Butler’s disappointment afterwards.

Still, the yummy Scot looking rather svelte in his suit and didn’t let one misfire hinder his Oscar swagger.

“Everyone was just having a great time,” our source says of the celeb attendees enjoying Soho House’s 360-degree views of Los Angeles, not to mention trays of champagne, a meat-and-cheese bar and hamburger sliders.

Other guests at the soiree included Jamie Foxx, Leonardo Dicaprio, Bar Rafaeli, Russell Brand, Russell Simmons, Kate Bosworth, Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Gwen Stefani, Sofia Vergara, Colin Firth, Ryan Gosling, Kevin Connolly, and Kelly Osbourne…just to name a few.
