Jake Gyllenhaal: ‘Pushing Myself Is Part Of My Life’
26 April, 2016 Author: Catagories: Demolition, Interviews, Stronger

I meet Jake Gyllenhaal in a makeshift production office in an industrial estate outside Boston, Massachusetts. He is bright-eyed and sitting in a bare corner room. He closes the door on his dog, a big Alsatian, which roams outside among a team of assistants staring at screens and eating lunch. He has been here for six weeks making Stronger, a film based on the life of Jeff Bauman, who lost his legs in the Boston Marathon bombing and then identified one of the killers, who he had stood next to in the crowd.

Gyllenhaal, who has a legendary work ethic, is both starring in and producing the film. He’s got to know Bauman well. “The irony is that, however terrible the situation was, it gave him a real meaning and purpose,” he says. “Jeff is quite a character. A hilarious person. The movie is very funny. It is a story of someone who had to learn how to become a father and an adult through an unbelievably difficult and horrific situation. It is a story of how to grow up.”

Jake Doesn’t Mind The Pressure He Feels Playing Jeff Bauman
18 April, 2016 Author: Catagories: Interviews, Stronger

“I am getting a lot of pressure to play this part,” Jake Gyllenhaal said on stage at Boston Medical Center’s 2016 Boston Marathon pasta dinner on Sunday night. “But I love that pressure. I love this city.”

For nearly a month, the actor has been filming Stronger, a Hollywood feature (not to be confused with Mark Wahlberg’s film Patriots’ Day) based on Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman’s autobiographical book of the same title. Gyllenhaal plays Bauman, a man he called “a triumph in just this unspeakable situation.”

Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured near the Boston Marathon finish line in 2013. Bauman, a Chelmsford native, was among those injured.

Jake Gyllenhaal Takes On Boston Hero In ‘Stronger’
13 April, 2016 Author: Catagories: Gallery Updates, Interviews, Stronger

Jake Gyllenhaal takes on notoriously tough roles, but his new movie is Boston strong.

In Stronger, shooting now, Gyllenhaal is playing Jeff Bauman, whose story of resilience went national three years ago after a jarring photo epitomized the tragedy of the Boston Marathon attack.

Bauman attended the marathon to cheer on his then-girlfriend, Erin Hurley, who was running her first race. After the pressure cooker bombs exploded, a photographer documented the 27-year-old being wheeled to an ambulance by a bystander in a cowboy hat.

Bauman lost the lower portion of his legs that day. He also helped identify the suspects from his hospital bed.

“I can’t begin to think about the pain that he has been through. In fact, I have thought about it a lot. I’ve tried to,” says Gyllenhaal, calling from Boston’s Back Bay. “But I don’t know if I would have been able to survive.
