Jake Gyllenhaal and Brian F. O’Byrne Bond Onstage
20 September, 2012 Author: Catagories: If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, Interviews

Jake Gyllenhaal and Brian F. O’Byrne don’t seem to have too much in common.

One is a 45-year-old Tony Award-winning Irish-born character actor and stage veteran. The other is a 31-year-old A-list movie star making his U.S. stage debut. But spend some time with them and you might swear they’re related.

“He’s like my older brother, that’s how it feels,” says Gyllenhaal, sitting beside O’Byrne in a comfy downtown cafe. “It feels like that in the scenes and it feels like that when we come offstage.”

Jake Tried Staying Undercover On LAPD Rides
19 September, 2012 Author: Catagories: End of Watch, Interviews

To prepare for his role as a cop in his new film “End of Watch,” Jake Gyllenhaal spent five months trailing active-duty Los Angeles Police Department officers. “They were definitely skeptical — it took us a while to become friends with the police officers that we were on ride-alongs with,” the 31-year-old said Monday night at the premiere of the film, which co-stars Michael Peña. “Let’s be honest: We’re something else to take care of in the back of that car. You start spending time with them every night, and that’s a big burden to put on the police officers.”

In the movie, which has generated largely positive reviews, Gyllenhaal and Peña star as partners whose bond deepens as they work the gritty streets of South Central L.A. The process of playing a cop altered Peña’s attitude toward the LAPD, the 36-year-old said.

“We showed the movie [End of Watch] over in the Hamptons. That was an interesting crowd, because it was very different form the crowd that’s in the movie and the world that you experience in the movie. Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld hosted the screening, because they’re fans of the movie, they’ve seen the movie before they just wanted to show a lot of people particularly in their world that movie.
