Jake To Make Broadway Debut In ‘Constellations’

Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) and the Royal Court Theatre, by special arrangement with Ambassador Theatre Group and Dodger Properties, will produce the American premiere of Constellations, the acclaimed new play by Nick Payne, directed by Michael Longhurst, starring Academy Award nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal, on Broadway.

The limited engagement of Constellations will begin previews Tuesday, December 16, 2014 for a Tuesday, January 13, 2015 opening night at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).

Jake Gyllenhaal In Talks To Star In ‘Demolition’

Jake Gyllenhaal is in early talks to star for Dallas Buyers Club helmer Jean-Marc Vallée, in Demolition, from the Black List screenplay by Bryan Sipe. Black Label is financing and producing with Mr. Mudd, whose Lianne Halfon, John Malkovich, and Russell Smith will produce with Black Label’s Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill and Trent Luckinbill.

Talks with Gyllenhaal are in the early stage but look promising. The story centers on a young investment banker struggling to understand his emotional disconnect after the tragic death of his wife. He begins to tear apart his life in a distraught effort to see where he went wrong but ultimately is rescued by a woman he meets in a chance encounter. It is another solid indie for Mr. Mudd, which recently produced The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

Cannes: ‘Nightcrawler’ Goes to Open Road In U.S.

Open Road has snapped up U.S. rights to Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming crime drama Nightcrawler for $4.5 million following a spirited bidding war.

The movie, now completed, sparked keen interest among domestic distributors on the ground at the Cannes Film Market. The Weinstein Co. and Focus Features were also in the bidding, with A24 Films and Fox Searchlight circling.

Nightcrawler marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Gilroy. Rene Russo, Gilroy’s wife, and Bill Paxton co-star in the movie. Tony Gilroy and Jennifer Fox are producing with Gyllenhaal.

“We are thrilled to re-team with Jake Gyllenhaal, with whom we shared great success on End Of Watch,” Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg said in a statement. “Dan and Tony Gilroy are incredibly talented and have made a fantastic film and we couldn’t be happier about adding Nightcrawlers to our slate.”

‘Everest’ Release Date Pushed Back Seven Months

It will take a little longer to climb Everest. Universal has pushed back the release of its mountain climbing drama from Feb. 27, 2015, to Sept. 18, 2015.

Directed by 2 Guns helmer Baltasar Kormakur, the film, which will be released in 3D, stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal. The cast is rounded out by Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Wright.

The project, which is based on a true story, follows the events of an ill-fated 1996 climb to the top of the world’s tallest mountain. It is shooting on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, the Italian Alps and at Cinecitta Studios in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the U.K. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams to Star in ‘Ezekiel Moss’

The Prohibition Era drama Ezekiel Moss is finally moving forward, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams coming aboard to star. Philip Seymour Hoffman has long been attached to direct the film from a Black List script by Keith Bunin.

Exclusive Media has come aboard to handle international rights, and will launch the project to foreign buyers at Berlin’s upcoming European Film Market.

Adams will play Iris, who, emotionally fragile after the loss of her husband, runs a boarding house to get by and provide for her spirited son, Joel. They reside in a small town overrun by religious fervor, and their lives are forever changed when she begins to fall in love with Ezekiel Moss (Gyllenhaal), a mysterious drifter who has the divine ability to channel and physically inhabit the spirits of the dead.
