The Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 3 to 13, will offer a special program focusing on Canadian cinema.

“We’ve selected Canadian films for a special focus at this year’s festival for many reasons, not the least of which is the wealth of talent emerging from its relatively small, indigenous film industry, and the depth and richness of story and character portrayal its films exemplify,” festival director Darryl Macdonald said.

The festival’s Spotlight on Canadian Cinema will include a Canadian Film Day, sponsored by Telefilm Canada, and a program of 12 features. The lineup consists of Pilote’s The Auction; Peter Stebbings’ Empire of Dirt and Villeneuve’s Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle and more.

‘Enemy’ will have its US premiere on Jan 9th at 7:30 PM. Tickets on sale Dec 26th. More details here.

‘Enemy’ has been selected for the 13th annual Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival.

The 10-day festival runs January 3rd to 12th, 2014 at TIFF Bell Lightbox and features public screenings of the selected films, accompanied by introductions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers. On January 5th, the Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival welcomes Academy Award-nominees Denis Villeneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal to TIFF Bell Lightbox to discuss their recent collaborations on Prisoners and Enemy.

My, how the tables did turn at the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards on Nov. 18, when presenting actors like Jake Gyllenhaal and Kerry Washington took pleasure in making a ballroom full of casting directors nervous for a change.

“It’s really nice to see casting directors get up here and be more nervous than I’ve ever seen them before,” Gyllenhaal told the packed International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton. “On behalf of me, my sister (actress Maggie Gyllenhaal), my brother-in-law, who’s an actor (Peter Sarsgaard), my mother and my father. We could not have done it without you. It’s actually really wonderful to see casting directors get up here and be more nervous than I’ve ever seen them. Now you know how we (actors) feel! It’s perversely wonderful to watch you shake. I’m actually kind of getting off on it.”
