Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal Return To Stage In ‘Sea Wall / A Life’

At their best, one-person plays have the intimacy and urgency of an encounter with someone who needs to get something off his or her chest, ideally portrayed by an actor who compels us to listen. Two such plays—Simon Stephens’s Sea Wall and Nick Payne’s A Life—open as a twin set next month at the Public Theater.

Under the direction of the smashing Carrie Cracknell, each is a short monologue that, beneath its spare surface, grapples with profound questions about life, death, and identity.

In A Life, Gyllenhaal plays a man struggling to reconcile his emotions surrounding the death of his father and the birth of his daughter. Originally titled The Art of Dying, the piece started as a monologue that Payne performed at London’s Donmar Warehouse in 2013, in the aftermath of his own father’s death.

28 September, 2018 Author: Catagories: Gallery Updates, Interviews

On October 1st, the New York City Center will kick off a new season, during which it will celebrate it’s 75th anniversary. To honor its rich history, the City Center has commissioned 3 visual art installations, including one which features a series of photos by Nina Robinson of artists who’ve worked with the venue, including Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake’s photo and thoughts on what the City Center means to him are below:

Jake Gyllenhaal

“Home for me is where a challenge lies. Little Shop of Horrors was the first time I had sung to a New York audience. I can still remember the feeling, the vibration of the audience. It was an inexplicable feeling. I couldn’t really comprehend it. That energy has been pretty much unmatched since that moment by anything that I’ve performed, in a film or in front of an audience.”

Jake On His Career And Being Cartier’s Watch Ambassador
23 May, 2018 Author: Catagories: Interviews

Integrity, dedication and boundless curiosity – Jake Gyllenhaal is said to embody all those qualities as the new face of the Santos de Cartier timepiece. And rightly so, for the man indeed has a pioneering spirit.

Gyllenhaal is regarded as one of the most adventurous actors of his generation. His roles span a wide spectrum: from troubled teenager in 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko to Brokeback Mountain’s conflicted, repressed sheep herder.

According to him, the latter remains as a favourite. Speaking to Star2.com via email, the 37-year-old says that the fearlessness of the film’s two characters was a lesson for everyone, especially when it came out in 2005.

Jake Gyllenhaal Covers ‘GQ Australia’ Magazine
10 January, 2018 Author: Catagories: Gallery Updates, Interviews

In a chic New York office, Jake Gyllenhaal is sitting alongside a man named Jeff Bauman. Bauman is an author, a motivational speaker and an advocate but is best known as a man who lost both legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. During his rehabilitation, he also became a rare beacon of hope, shining out of a dark tragedy.

The pair are interviewing each other for a Facebook Q&A, as part of the promotion for Stronger, the movie adaptation of Bauman’s best-selling book of the same name, which he co-wrote in the aftermath of the attack.

Gyllenhaal portrays Bauman in the film, a role which has already garnered attention this awards season. The interview looks to be your typical junket fare – a bit of back and forth about the film, before those involved simply sit back and take turns blowing smoke up each other’s arses. But it’s not.
